PageSpinner supports transfers of open documents to an FTP server by using a scriptable file transfer program such as Anarchie, Fetch and NetFinder.
Setting it up
After selecting the menu item File:Preferences:Web Site... you can choose the preferred file transfer application and enter the password and FTP path to the Web server directory. The FTP path to the root folder must also contain your login name for the server (see the examples in the dialog window). You should also select the path to the root folder that contains your HTML files on your local hard disk.
The first time you use the Save to Web Server command you will be asked to locate the file transfer application if it isn't running. Navigate via the select file dialog to choose your file transfer application.
Important: Do not select any of the helper applications in PageSpinner's FTP folder such as "Anarchie Save To FTP Server" or "Fetch Save To FTP Server" as your file transfer application. You must select an actual ftp transfer application (Anarchie, Fetch or NetFinder) that is located somewhere outside the PageSpinner folder.
Saving to the Server
When everything has been setup, simply select Save to Web Server… from PageSpinner's File menu to save the current file to the server you have specified. The transfers are performed in the background so you can continue to work in PageSpinner with other files. After a file has been transferred successfully you will hear a beep. If there are problems with the file transfer you will be notified by an alert message.
The text file FTP Server Settings contains the URL that specifies the current file server, directory, user id, password etc. During a session your password are stored in a readable format in this file, but the contents in the file is removed when you quit PageSpinner.
Transferring files with the Finder
If you have access to your server files on the Macinthosh desktop, for example on a local folder using Personal Web Sharing or mounted as a volume via AppleShare, you can select Finder as the file transfer application in the Web Site Preferences. Finder will then copy the files to the specified server folder or server volume.
Supported file transfer applications:
Anarchie
Anarchie is an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client for the Macintosh. It will let you browse FTP sites, upload or download files, or find them using an Archie or Mac Search.
The Anarchie Web site can be found at: <http://www.stairways.com/stairways/>
Fetch
Fetch is a Macintosh program for transferring files using FTP. If you are saving files in PageSpinner's ISO 8859-1 format (the default setting) and use Fetch to upload the files, you need to select "Customize:Misc" in Fetch and uncheck "Translate ISO characters" to get international characters transferred correctly.
The Fetch web page is at <http://www.dartmouth.edu/pages/softdev/fetch.html>
NetFinder
NetFinder is an FTP and HTTP file transfer application for Macintosh and it is the most Finder-like FTP client for Mac OS. NetFinder 2.2 and higher also supports the External Editor Protocol that lets you open files on an FTP server and edit them with PageSpinner 3.
More info about NetFinder is available at <http://www.ozemail.com.au/~pli/netfinder/>
